The project task plan (sometimes referred to as the ‘Work Breakdown Structure’ or WBS) defines the detailed tasks that need to be fulfilled to complete the project. This will typically involve planning the work in a hierarchical structure and include task constraints, predecessors, assignments, and milestones.
Plan templates are essentially a pre-defined task plan that can be used as a starting point for new entities. The benefits of using a template plan are:
Provides a quicker path to completing the initial plan.
Ensures that all entities using this plan have the required tasks, milestones and gates. This is particularly relevant for any consolidated data analysis across multiple plans.
Plan templates are created from the Plan Templates Dashboard
The dashboard can be accessed from the Administration Workbench. From the menu, select Admin Center under the Administration section.
From the administration workbench, select Plan Templates from the Templates section.
Large projects are likely to have large plans that do not all fit on the page. Use the ‘Collapse/Expand All’ link to collapse the demand plan and make it easier to find demand.
Use the browser search capabilities to search for a Task by name.
Plan templates can be updated. Navigate to the Plan Templates Dashboard and click on the plan template to be updated.
Changes to plan templates apply only to entities which are created after the change. The changes do not apply to task plans already created from this template.
Plan templates can be deactivated to prevent them being used for new task plans. Navigate to the Plan Templates Dashboard and click on the plan template to be deactivated.
Deactivating a template has no impact on task plans already created from this template.
