Validations are used to control user input to a field. These may be fields on a form or they could be filter fields for a dashboard or report.
Validations define both the method of control (the validation type) and the possible values (validation values).
Validations are created from the Validations Dashboard
This page can be accessed from the Configuration workbench. From the menu, select 'Config Workbench' under the 'Administration' section.
From the configuration workbench, select 'Validations' from the 'Forms and Workflow' section.
Validations can be deactivated if they are no longer required.
Navigate to the Validations Dashboard and click on the validation to be deactivated.
Untick the 'Active' flag.
This will not remove the validation if it is already in use, but will exclude it from the list when selecting a validation during configuration.
Validations can be updated. Navigate to the Validations Dashboard and click on the validation to be updated.
Changes to validations have no impact on the data in existing forms which may still reference the old values. To help determine the impact of changes, the Validation Editor includes a tab 'Used By' which shows all the places where the validation is used elsewhere in the platform.
Validations can be deleted but all references to that validation must first be removed.
Navigate to the Validations Dashboard and click on the validation to be deleted.
In the Validation Editor check for dependent references by using the 'Used By' tab.
If there are no dependencies click on the drop down menu next to the save button and select 'Delete'
Validations can be deactivated which will prevent them being used on newly created fields and filters.
Navigate to the Validations Dashboard and click on the validation to be deleted.
Untick the 'Active' flag.
This will not remove the validation if it is already in use, but will exclude it from the list when selecting a validation during configuration.
