Business objectives represent the measurable goals that an organisation is aiming to achieve in order to accomplish its longer-term vision.
Business objectives are measured through one or more Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The changes needed to meet the objectives are delivered though proposals, projects, programmes, and services. These are termed ‘contributors’ to the objective.
Tracking of progress is carried out through status reporting.
Business Objectives can be created by navigating to the Business Objectives Dashboard. This dashboard can also be accessed from the ‘Strategy’ section of the flydown menu.
To view existing business objectives, navigate to the Business Objectives Dashboard or access via the flydown menu under the ‘Strategy’ category. Clicking on any one business objective will provide an overview of the business objective including contributors and KPIs.
Once the business objective has been created, it will be possible to define the KPIs. To do this, find and open the business objective (above) or define the KPI via the flydown menu under the ‘Strategy’ section.
In order to report progress against a business objective there are several pre-requisite steps:
A contributory service must be created. This can be done via the Services Dashboard . The service form has a field to define which business objective it contributes towards.
The service contains a key measures table which defines which KPIs the service will contribute towards, and tracks forecasted and actual progress towards those KPIs.
Once created, contributory services can be accessed from the business objective overview page. From the Business Objectives Dashboard click on a business objective to open it. Related services can be accessed from the ‘Stats’ content area.
The service overview page includes a link to create a status report for the service. The status report will calculate any automatic KPIs and allow capture of manual KPIs. Commentary about progress can also be entered at this point.
Follow the steps to view and open a business objective (above). Basic information about the business objective can be changed including the name, description, priority, and goal date.
Once an objective has been met, or, if the objective is no longer relevant it is possible to deactivate it for further reporting and KPI tracking.
Follow the steps to view and open a business objective (above). From this page it is possible to edit the business objective and set it to inactive.
Business objectives cannot be deleted, only deactivated (see above). If one has been created in error it is recommended to deactivate it and/or rename it.
